The Causes Of Childhood Autism - 1414 Words
Theyââ¬â¢re so many reasons I was very interested in this topic about ââ¬Å"possible causes of childhood autism.â⬠For example, one is because my little brother is in the process of being diagnosed with autism. Autism can mean a number of things. When people talk about autism, it can either mean autism spectrum disorder, which is a category of disorders, or classical autism ASD includes classical autism. So ASD and autism may be two different things. Autism is known as a complex developmental disability. ASD stands for Autism Spectrum Disorder and can sometimes be referred to as Autistic Spectrum Disorder. A person with ASD will typically also prefer to stick to a set of behaviors and will resist any major (and many minor) changes to dailyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦There are a few steps to diagnosing autism. The steps include parent interviews, medical exams, hearing test, observation, a lead screening. If the symptoms seem severe then a speech and language evaluation, cognitive test, adaptive functioning assessments and sensory motor evaluation may be needed. Diagnosis is not a brief process, and has no single medical test. Autism can only be diagnosed by a specialist, including: child psychologists, child psychiatrists, speech pathologists, developmental pediatricians, pediatric neurologists, and audiologist, physical therapist, and special education teachers. The road to an autism diagnosis can be difficult and time-consuming. In fact, it is often two or three year after the first symptoms of autism are recognized before an official diagnosis is made. This is due in large part to concerns about labeling or incorrectly diagnosing the child. Because of the severity variety, a specialist may observe social interaction, and give speech tests, test communication, and have a genetic test given to a suspected autistic patient. A person with autism usually has a routine which they follow. May people may see this is odd, and try to force the person may see with autism to accept change. In doing this, these people could adversely affect their quality of life. A person with autism usually finds sudden loud noises unpleasant and quite shocking. The same can happen with some smells and sudden changes in intensity of lighting
